California Voters Research March Elections With Web Site

 SACRAMENTO, Calif., Feb. 9 (AScribe Newswire) -- California voters are wading through lists of candidates and ballot issues to prepare for the March 2 elections. The League of Women Voters of California has readied SmartVoter.org to offer voters objective background on the complex issues and array of candidates that appear on this election's ballots as well as information on what's new for the California Primary.

Voters can log on to the site to read other nonpartisan information about the elections in their communities including state, county and municipal propositions and candidates. March 2 contest information includes candidates in State Assembly, State Senate and U.S. Congress, and as well as local contests in various cities and districts throughout California

The League aims to educate voters and explain complex procedures in easy to understand terms.

Smart Voter showcases "My Ballot." Voters input their address to find their polling place and receive a customized ballot including measures and candidates running for elected positions in their areas.

Because the March election is a primary election, many voters who are registered "decline to state" can request to vote a party ballot. The site boasts a powerful feature in the "party" pull-down that answers voters' questions on what they can expect when voting a "party" or "decline to state" ticket. The feature allows voters to view candidates by political party for a particular ballot.

Smartvoter.org provides a means for all candidates in participating counties to publish information about themselves and their candidacy directly to voters and without cost.
