As a Board Member she has worked to encourage fiscal responsibility while still pursuing ways to grow and expand programs within their means. She was instrumental in bring Duel Language programs to the Cajon Valley School District. She collaborated to bring breakfast in the classroom at low socio-economic schools. Tamara considers it imperative to experience first hand the results of good programs and the shortcomings of failing programs; therefore she has personally visited every school and classroom within her district.
Tamara strongly believes that the responsibilities of an elected leader of the community exceed that of just the school board. She has worked within the community to create the East County Aquatics Foundation in order to raise funds to support the new 50-meter pool at Granite Hills High School. She sits on the Athletic Board Council at GHHS. She is the Council PTA Reflections Chair and for the last two years has brought a District Wide Art Competition and Art Show to students. She is a member of the El Cajon Rotary Club, and a member of the Chaldean American Chamber of Commerce. Tamara understands the importance of creating relationships within the community in order to further support the youth.
