For those of you who don't know me, please allow me to tell you my qualifications and why I would like to continue to represent you on the City Council.

My husband Marvin and I moved to Santa Fe Springs 55 years ago where we raised five children in our home on Flallon Avenue. All of the children attended Little Lake City schools and graduated from Santa Fe High.

Over nearly five decades, I have worked for the schools as a lunch supervisor, instructional aide, and then elementary teacher. Twenty years as a classroom teacher and a Master's Degree in Education prepared me well for six years of service as a member of the Board of Education of the Little Lake City School District. As a founding member of the district's Strategic Planning Committee, I had the opportunity to work with other citizens to help direct the future of our schools.

For the past 12 years, I have served the citizens of Santa Fe Springs as a member of the City Council, serving as Mayor for two years.

I have been an active volunteer in our community for over 40 years in the following capacities:

  • Girl Scout leader: 30 years
  • PTA officer: 41 years
  • Rio Hondo Symphony Board: 10 years
  • Co-Founder, Santa Fe Springs Community Playhouse
  • Member, SFS Women's Club: 27 years
  • Member, SFS Sister City Committee: 27 years
  • Member, SFS Historical Committee: 27 years
  • Member, SFS Friends of the Library: 27 years
  • Charter member, Assoc. of Mexican American Educators

I have been humbled and honored to be recognized for my efforts:
  • Santa Fe Springs Citizen of the Year
  • William J. McCann Humanitarian Award
  • Little Lake Teacher of the Year
  • Whittier School Administrators Community Service Award
  • Spanish Trails Girl Scout Awards
  • Little Lake Council PTA Honorary Service Award
  • City of Santa Fe Springs 20 Year Service Award
  • 4th Congressional District Outstanding Citizen Award

Now, more than ever, our city requires knowledgeable, experienced people in government to ensure that Santa Fe Springs continues on a fiscally sound path while offering our citizens the services they deserve and require. I am a person of action and I will work to keep Santa Fe Springs responsive to the needs of our people, even through difficult times.
