HELP TO LOCAL GOVERNMENT

By Thomas G. Deitman

Candidate for State Representative; District 159

Allowing Local Government to stay in business
As the President of a small borough council, I have come to realize that the small and mid-size municipalities face a grave future.

The duty of every governmnet is to provide the best possible service at the lowest cost to the residents whom that government represents. This is becomming harder and harder to do because the price of services increases at a rate faster that the income of the people in the municipality thus making it harder for those people to withstand constant tax increases.

Yet without tax funding, the governments face a hard decision: Cut or elmiminate service altogether.

If elected I will work very closely with Borough Councils and township commisioners to find more and better ways to provide services and save money thus limiting tax increases including:

  • The use of shared services

  • Appropriate grants to fund municiple projects

  • Assistance to local police departments in the areas of staffing, training and equipment.

  • Assistance and programs for volunteer fire and EMS services to keep them secure and operating.

  • Assistance with Main Street and Elm Street programs to allow municiple revitalization.
