Reducing Traffic Congestion

By Sally Benedict Jeisy

Candidate for Council Member; City of San Clemente

This information is provided by the candidate
Interstate-5 is near capacity, from a public safety standpoint we need the toll road.
From a public safety issue I believe we need the toll road. One that is sensibly designed, carefully managed, and environmentally sensitive. This is our best alternative to reduce traffic and improve traffic circulation.

I OPPOSE: The Pico toll alignment. I oppose adding four more lanes to the Interstate-5, which would increase noise and pollution. There would be a "taking" of over 800 homes. Where would these families live? I oppose re-striping the lanes on Interstate-5, they would be extremely narrow and present a real driving hazard.

With the recent hurricane disaster in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama we should all think about the readiness of our city if a major earthquake or other disaster occurs.

We have over 65,000 residents in San Clemente, growth has already occurred. Now we have to manage that growth and make the best possible decisions regarding quality of life for all San Clemente residents.
