Beaches and Oceans

By Marilyn C. Brewer

Candidate for United States Representative; District 48

This information is provided by the candidate
Reduce Run Off | Halt Pollution | Help Obtain Federal Grants
Keeping our ocean and beaches clean is not just good policy, but it's also an economic issue. Beach closures and health warnings affect tourism and property values.

  • In Sacramento, I secured $1 million in funding to begin the dredging of Newport's Back Bay.
  • In the Assembly, I was successful in stopping the dumping of treated water into Newport Bay. The treated water was diverted for irrigation of golf courses and greenbelts.
  • I will work diligently to provide federal funding for water quality issues including pollution and urban runoff.
  • Real sources of pollutants need identified and EPA guidelines need updating to address local needs.
  • I support regional efforts to approach runoff sources with comprehensive solutions
