To elevate the perception and to substain the substance of a growing community, as Mayor of the City of Compton, I have several goals that I would like to continue to build upon for the City of Compton.

First and foremost, I want to change the image of Compton. Cooperating with the Compton Unified School District to improve the quality of education for our children is paramount. Secondly, it is imperative to bring first-rate businesses to the city to ensure economic growth. Thirdly, I am committed to proactively working with the Los Angeles Sheriff Department to reduce crime in order to make Compton a safe community. Finally, I believe that all things are possible with the citizens working together and that by doing so Compton can be the diamond it should be.

During my tenure as Mayor of the City of Compton, from 2001 - 2004, there was a 17% reduction in the crime rate. Currently there are 274 new homes under construction. A newly installed city management team has stablized the city budget and saved $16 million, which has resulted in the posting of new job opportunities. A $43 million shopping center has been approved for construction at the "Alameda Auto Plaza". A new "Savon Drug Store" is under construction. A new "Wells Fargo Bank" and "Starbucks" has opened for business. Finally, negotiations are on-going to meet the goal of attracting new businesses to the city to ensure economic growth.

The City was left with a large hill to climb when we were confronted with a $2.2 million fine as a result of the previous City administration business practices. I traveled to Washington, D.C. and successfully negotiated full relief of this fine with the U.S. Department of Justice. It is this level of commitment and loyalty to the betterment of the City of Compton that is required to make our city great.
