Biography

Wilma M. Wilson is a 27 year resident of the City of Carson. She is married to Pastor William M. Wilson Jr. She is the mother of two daughters, Tokewisha and April and Co-Pastor of Peace & Joy Christian Church CHSC. She attended Compton Community College where she received an Associate of Science Degree in Nursing in 1976 (Registered Nurse) and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from California State Los Angeles in 1979, Masters in Counseling 1989, a Master of Science in Psychology with a Marriage and Family Child Therapist Intern in 1999 from Pepperdine University. She completed 68 hours toward a Masters Degree in Divinity at Talbot School of Ministry (Biola University). She graduated from Pacific Coast University School of Law June 1, 2002 with a Juris Doctorate.

In 1989 she started a food program in Stevenson Village. In 1994 she became the Founder and Executive Director of Peace & Joy Care Center, a non-profit organization for Battered Women and their Children and Peace & Joy Child Development Center for Infants and Preschoolers and K-6th Grades. Wilma received the Addie Patterson Award for Outstanding Community Development Services to the City of Compton (1999), Bank of America Community Catalyst Award (1998) and the Glory Award from the Restoration Foundation (1998), Outstanding Community Woman from the Compton Chamber of Commerce (2001), Certificate of Recognition from the Speaker of the Assembly, Leadership Carson for Carson Chamber of Commerce, Ambassador for Carson Chamber of Commerce and numerous other awards. In 2002, Wilma was featured on Channels (7) and (13) News, expounding on issues concerning domestic violence on three occasions. She is a member of the clergy. She is a Carson City Commissioner.

Wilma is a member of the National Organization for College Women, California Association for Marriage and Family Therapists, NAACP, National Honor Society in Psychology (Psi Chi) and Kappa Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and the Chairperson for Congresswoman Juanita Millender-McDonald¡¦s Women¡¦s Congressional Council. She sits on the Los Angeles Homeless Service Authority Advisory Board (LAHSA). She has been a speaker at various churches, schools and universities. She enjoys running and playing chess. She is a tremendous advocate for women and children.
