MARK LEYES for CITY COUNCIL CANDIDATE STATEMENT

As your City Councilman, I am honored to represent the values of our families and community.

I am a lifelong Garden Grove resident. My wife Wanda and I are homeowners and active in our church and neighborhood.

Since you first elected me, I am proud of these and other accomplishments:

The Crime Rate has dropped more than 50% over the last decade. Under my leadership, we implemented "Community Policing," a Gang Suppression Unit, and a Strategic Plan to add Police Officers in our neighborhoods and schools.

I have balanced the budget every year, kept us out of the County bankruptcy, and ensured that public money is invested in safe and insured accounts.

I stood up against a plan to subject hundreds of homes to Eminent Domain. We must protect our neighborhoods and quality of life.

I stopped the Utility Tax. I opposed property tax and sales tax increases.

Provided jobs and tax revenue with new restaurants, businesses, and hotels.

New soundwalls and synchronized traffic signals to reduce traffic noise and congestion.

I led a crackdown on Cyber Cafes when two youths were brutally murdered. Our ordinance is now a model for other cities.

I am endorsed by Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona, in recognition of my record on fighting crime. Sheriff Carona and I share a commitment to protecting our children by tracking down and prosecuting violent predators.

We must not take for granted the strides we have made. When I am re-elected I will:

Protect Proposition 13 by fighting against new and higher taxes and keeping City Hall accountable to taxpayers.

Work to keep neighborhoods and schools safe from Gangs, graffiti and violent criminals.

Fight to preserve residential neighborhoods and protect property values.

I attended Garden Grove public schools. I earned my Bachelors and Masters degrees from California State University, Fullerton. I have been a Boy Scout troop leader, a founding member of the Garden Grove Community Foundation, and a member of the Garden Grove Historical Society.

Thank you for the honor to serve as your City Councilman. I ask for your continued support so I can fight to protect our neighborhoods and schools, keep taxes low, and keep our local economy growing.
