We must take strong action about traffic congestion, housing and the future of neighborhoods.
When complete we must fund implementation of the Master Transportation Study, with safety improvements, including:
- reduction of speeding cars and cut-through traffic
- repairing roads
- city-wide bike route
- building/maintaining more sidewalks
and expanded bus service
- innovative carpooling programs/incentives
We must take a committed aggressive approach to increasing the supply of housing, including:
- buying land for building affordable housing
- increasing density downtown/near transit lines
- building single resident housing
- redefining guidelines for accessory units
- supporting the construction of rental housing
- working with the University
We must protect the identity of our neighborhoods by relieving congestion, slowing cars, building small pocket parks families can walk to, developing alleys as pedestrian and bike ways, providing places for children to play and soliciting resident input about the many projects that affect their lives. And all along the way, we must be inclusive, polite and compassionate, remembering that it is not the job of the council to assume it knows what people want, but rather to listen, to plan, and set policies that will serve us in the future.
