Removal of all chemicals deleterious to our Health!

Candidate for Director; Municipal Water District of Orange County; Area 5

MTBE's - cryptosporidium, chromium #6 to plutonium -where does it stop?
Suspended viruses are dreaded in drinking water because they can't be filtered out, removed by reverse osmosis or even sometimes killed with ultra violet light. Lots of UV does finally put an end to these devils that cause flu, diarrhea and God knows what, but can you imagine then a single suspended virus being impregnated with plutonium or MTBE? Can this happen - of course! A suspended virus with negative chemical properties! Should we all be concerned? Yes, the health of our families should be our first concern.

The statistics vary, but conservatively 20 to 40% of all well water in Orange County is polluted with enough MTBE's, cryptosporidium or other harmful chemicals that wells have been closed or are considered hazardous to our health. Can these wells be saved or cleaned up? Current technology says that if you can't filter it, chemically alter it or destroy it - It can't be fixed! Ask the "experts" and they are quick to downplay the significance. Let's just say that if this is not a priority - "when will it be?" Growth throughout the Southern California region has created more demand - not less. And unless we are all willing - like lemmings - to buy off on reclaimed water as our "God sent", then we need to address the problems.

Determining what is in our water and where our water comes from should be basic. Every bottled water company must submit to the state a current listing of all chemicals that they supply to the public. Every time we get a water bill we should have that same understanding. Currently, we receive no such disclosure - this needs to change. Additionally, where does our water come from? Some from Colorado River, some from Metropolitan Water District, some from local wells, some from Reservoirs, some from rain run off or reclaimed water! This additionally should be fully disclosed. The chemicals in our water that exceed proper levels should be highlighted so that the general public knows what it is ingesting and how much!

Elected as your Water Board Member in District #5, the public will be informed!
